Level 3 Communications has signed a definitive agreement with Apollo for the purchase of capacity in the Atlantic. Under the terms of the deal, Level 3 will purchase 300 Gigabits (30 x 10 Gigabits) of transatlantic capacity with immediate availability. Level 3 has also retained an option to purchase a further 300 Gigabits of capacity, taking the potential contract to a total of 600 Gigabits. This transaction sets a new record as the largest single purchase of capacity on a cable system in the Atlantic and reflects the confidence Level 3 has in Apollo's ability to satisfy their growing demand.
This strategic purchase gives Level 3 scalable capacity that is necessary to meet their rapid network growth. Through the use of Apollo's southern leg, it also enables connectivity from the United States to Continental Europe that is entirely diverse from the New York region and the United Kingdom.
