An Apollo specific backhaul network physically links the Apollo submarine cable network with access sites in the points of presence (POP) in New York, Washington D.C., Paris and London. Matched with the submarine cables, the backhaul uses state of the art DWDM equipment to deliver capacity to the terminating points at the POPs.

• Cable & Wireless provides and manages the backhaul on behalf of Apollo
• The backhaul equipment uses ASN1640 DWDM technology
• The interface card specification is S-64.2b and can reach approximately 40 km when used at 1550nm on G.652 fibre
