Submarine Cable Installation

The marine installation was undertaken by brand new dedicated cable ships that employed state of the art navigation and position control technology.

Timing of the marine installation was vital and the installation of Apollo was planned, and completed, during the best weather months in spring and summer of 2002.

To ensure that Apollo was installed out of harm’s way, the latest and biggest plough burial technology was employed and Apollo has been buried to a water depth in excess of 1500m and is out of range of ships’ anchors and nets on both the US and European continental shelves. This ensures that Apollo avoids trailing anchors and trawlers' nets which could snag on submarine cables.
